Young’s Double Chocolate Stout

Young's Double Chocolate StoutA few years ago I had a chocolate stout dubbed “Chocolate Doughnut Stout” from Shenandoah Brewery. And it did indeed taste just like a chocolate cake doughnut with glaze. Sweet and chocolatey…and if I remember correctly, I got  nice buzz as well. So, I’ve been on a quest for a similar, easily accessible, sweet chocolate stout. I was hopeful when I popped the top of the Young’s “Luxury” Double Chocolate Stout nitro-can.Young’s had a sweet, chocolatey aroma and rich, thick head. Looked like a dessert in a can, really. As expected, the beer was really dark chocolate in color. All signs pointed to chocolately goodness. The flavor was malty and had nice, subtle, dark chocolate tones but wasn’t overly sweet. It felt almost velvety in my mouth. It left a slightly bitter aftertaste but didn’t linger for too long. All-in-all, a pretty tasty stout.

While Young’s didn’t give me that sweet doughnut taste I was looking for, it held up as a really smooth chocolate stout and proved to be a nice “dessert” after dinner. And while it was a great stout, I think that one was enough for one session.
