While in the DC area over the weekend, I enticed some friends to meet me at the newly-opened Mad Fox Brewing Company. Located in downtown Falls Church, VA, Mad Fox is the new venture by Bill and Beth Madden. Bill previously brewed at Cap City Brewing Co and Vintage 50, and I’ve long been a fan of his beers. I was not disappointed by Mad Fox. It’s a big space, with lots of bar seating as well as a separate dining area (I guess for people who aren’t bar-flys like me!). We didn’t eat much, but noticed the menu ranges from appetizers to sandwiches/pizza to full entrees. One of my friends commented that it would earn a big star on her map of DC-area fried pickle locations. I was more focused on the beer. Bill is offering some of his classic beers (including his Kolsch and Pale Ale), and we thought his Saison was superb. There were also some ciders on tap, and I believe they plan to offer additional rotating beers. I was very excited to see that he plans to offer several beers on cask – as you can tell by my use of the term “firkin”, I’m a huge fan of cask beer, and Bill Madden has a history of loving to serve it. They had already sold out of some of the cask, so we only got to try the IPA, but I saw equipment to serve at least 3 styles on cask. I had a great time at Mad Fox, and am looking forward to visiting it again when I’m back in Northern Va.
