I recently visited Adroit Theory Brewing Company in Purcellville, VA to sample some of their new releases. Adroit does things differently. They focus on quality and experimentation rather than quantity. They craft some amazing and progressive brews, but they don’t make a ton of the stuff. Most of the time they don’t even bottle for mass purchase-you have to visit them to enjoy the beers on tap, and I am OK with that.
Charlie’s Review of AleSmith Speedway Stout
Having been in the beer and wine business for 17 years, it’s become increasingly rare for me to get the thrill one gets from finding a special bottle of beer or wine. If I want something, I basically just grab it off the shelf and take it home with me. I know many people that will use on line ordering for that rare bottle, but nothing has replaced the high I get from stumbling across that special bottle. Especially if it’s beer! No matter where I go, I do a little research and find the small, locally owned shop and try and spend a couple of minutes there, scouring the shelves looking for something that will make me squeal like a child on Christmas morning. Of course that’s what happened when I came across a bottle of AleSmith Speedway Stout. I’d read about it for some time and literally held my breath when I saw it on a shelf in North Canton, Ohio a little over a year ago, when visiting an aunt.
On February 27th we were fortunate to be invited to Legend Brewery’s 17th Anniversary bash in Richmond, VA. Legend is one of my favorite local breweries – great food, amazing beer and an incredibly hospitable team of folks who truly love making great beer – what more could you ask for?
When spending time in Richmond, I have a few recommendations. Stay at the Crowne Plaza on Canal Street. Lovely rooms, great service and a short shuttle ride away from anywhere you might want to go.
