This was the second pumpkin ale I tried this season – “Post Road” Pumpkin Ale from Brooklyn Brewery. My husband and I both tried the Post Road and were in agreement – not our favorite.
The Post Road is a nice amber color, and has a little more clarity than the Punkin. There was very little head after being poured and almost no head after settling although it did leave a slight lacing on the glass.
The aroma was really spicy with hints of allspice, cinnamon but almost no pumpkin scent at all.
Post Road had a subtle spicy taste but was REALLY sour – and not in a good way. It was a little malty and the subtle taste of spices lingered. There was no bitterness at all.
I’ve talked to several folks, including our Brooklyn rep, about my disappointment with Post Road. Some agree that it’s just an odd sour pumpkin ale while others have cited potential production or quality issues. All-in-all, unfortunately it’s not a beer that I would recommend.
Please let me know if you’ve had other experience with Post Road – maybe its just me!
