Beer – It’s Not Just for MEN

I have a bone to pick with the general public. I am not a feminist by a long shot, but I do believe that we are all equal in all parts of our life…including our hobbies and alcoholic beverages. I was recently doing some research on blog posts and checked out Alltop.com – a “magazine rack” for decent blogs and one of my fave resources. I ran a search on “Beer”. Alltop takes your search criteria and provides topical links to your chosen topic as well as related topics. My results were “Beer” and “Men”. Really? As I came out of my office ranting about how sexist pigs, I realized that this wasn’t all that unusual. As a kid, I remember seeing my mom drink a beer and thinking how weird – mom drinking beer? My dad and his buddies drank beer all the time, but my mom didn’t get together with the other moms to indulge in a night of brewskis.

But, as Mr. Dylan wrote, the times they are a-changing. More of my female friends enjoy beer – good beer – for what it is. We get together and talk about different beers, how they are made, why we like what we like. We attend beer festivals and some of us even homebrew. Beer isn’t just for guys sitting around on a Saturday night in a buddy’s basement playing poker. It’s become an art form and more women want to be part of it.

So, I say, huzzah to all the women who love a good brew, are educating themselves on the nuances of beer and…can hold their liquor. 😉

Needless to say, I’ll be checking Alltop often to see if we can trend “women” right alongside “men” in their handy little search!
